Chyàchyu Læyà

Chyàchyu Læyà (/ˈcəcu/ /ˈlæjə/ [complicated; intricate] [station (railroad; bus)]) is a subtropical Small Town located in the Lakâ Kâzi Principality of the City-state of Kakoray.

The name Chyàchyu Læyà is derived from the Wareneese language, as Chyàchyu Læyà was founded by Grovgez Glkdsê Trèdsme, who was culturaly Wareneese.

Climate

Chyàchyu Læyà has a yearly average temperature of 13°C (55°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 27°C (80°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a freezing -1°C (31°F). Chyàchyu Læyà receives an average of 259 cm/y (101 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of snow during the pleasantly short winter months. Chyàchyu Læyà covers an area of nearly 4 km² (1 mi²), and an average elevation of 3582 m (11751 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Chyàchyu Læyà was founded durring the late 18th century in early fall of the year 1688, by Grovgez Glkdsê Trèdsme. The establishment of Chyàchyu Læyà was plagued by a lack of willing colonists. After attempts to pay people to resettle failed Grovgez Glkdsê Trèdsme struck deals with nearby nations and communities to establish Chyàchyu Læyà as a prison colony.

Chyàchyu Læyà was built using the conventions of Wareneese durring the late 18th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Chyàchyu Læyà is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature delicute timber framework hidden behind layer upon layer of finly ground plaster bleached to an almost glossy white sheen, with green clay tiled roofs and decorative brass-leafed trim. Even the smallest, poorest looking structures appear to be expencive thanks to the extreem elegence of the organic shapes and paterns going into their lofty, spire-y, vagly gothic designs. The more well off folks live in identicle homes, save for even shiner trim and a more whimsical appearance to their structures flowing forms.

Chyàchyu Læyà is buildings are grouped arround an odd layout of broad cobblestone streets, which seems to be based on an overlapping squair patern such that there are small squares at the cornor of every bigger square. Sometimes buildings exist in the smaller squaires, other times they are open spaces, or occupied by temporary structures. The town is protected by a renforced stone fence which sits atop earthwork defences, for some of the best inexpencive defences a town of Chyàchyu Læyà's size could have. The town's well-designed, yet cheep have recently undergone extensive repairs and renovations, such that the repairwork is imeadiently apparent and can be spotted due to the diffring ages of materials. One can't help but wonder what brought the need for those repairs to the town.

Chyàchyu Læyà is not quite well. Something happened here, perhapse recently, perhapse long ago. Whatever it was, it settled into the very soul of the town like a festering wound. The people go about their day well enough, but there’s a tention in the air you can cut with a knife. You get the terrible feeling that whatever it was, the wound it left will simply never heal. This town is as a necropolice.

Civic Infrastructure

Chyàchyu Læyà has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Chyàchyu Læyà.

Chyàchyu Læyà has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Chyàchyu Læyà has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Chyàchyu Læyà has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Chyàchyu Læyà's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Chyàchyu Læyà has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Chyàchyu Læyà has a Guild of Roadworkers, who are responsible for maintaining the roadways and public paths within town. They also have the duty of enforcing all civil laws relating to the roadways.

Chyàchyu Læyà has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

Life is hard in Chyàchyu Læyà. Its people are impoverished compared to their peers elsewhere. Something is making the locals stay, however, whether fear of the alternative, hope for a better future, or a stubborn attachment to their ancestral lands. Whatver the reason, living in this harsh area for generations has made the people of Chyàchyu Læyà a notably resourceful and hearty people.

Chyàchyu Læyà's chapel was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is known for its buildings being predominantly formed through the combination of basic geometric shapes. However, it shown in the detailing given to the structures such as its characteristic tall columns, intricate detail, symmetry, harmony, and balance in their designs to an astonishing degree of precision. Decorative elements for the buildings tended to be built into the structure itself, making great use of fluting, frescoes, inlays, and embossing.

Due to the actions of local Kami, summer is long in Chyàchyu Læyà.

The Herd Animal, Bison near Chyàchyu Læyà are known to be quite timid.

Chyàchyu Læyà's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in winter and involves consuming a local narcotic to channel Necromancy energies of tier 3 via throat chanting.

Economy

The following information was obtained via the Imperial Census Bureau as part of the Eyom Economic Outreach Program. It differs from Standard Imperial censuses in that many of Tom's citizens, regardless of culture, work in more than one occupation or hold more than a single job. The Imperial Census Bureau has ruled that a job is a job, hence, the intigers within the data presented here can count an individual more than once.

The roads leading into Chyàchyu Læyà possess a great number of switchbacks. While designed for defense, they mostly wind up pissing everyone trying to take goods to town right the hell off.

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century, Chyàchyu Læyà was attacked by savage tribes living nearby Chyàchyu Læyà. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Chyàchyu Læyà lost 253 people, 246 livestock, and 66 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 166, when members of Chyàchyu Læyà's militia enacted an operation to extract assets from a strategic location under siege by the enemy. The operation was complicated by one of the key objectives in the operation requiring sticking to a very strict and short time table. The conflict ended with a last stand against the enemy until a particular event occurred, which ended in defeat for Chyàchyu Læyà's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Chyàchyu Læyà's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
